Reimagining the Traditional Japanese Fan Through the Lens of meanswhile

Folding Fan “sense”with Dyneema®

A quintessential symbol of Japanese summer, the folding fan is reinterpreted with a meanswhile perspective. This product was born from designer Fujisaki's personal frustrations with traditional fans — paper fans being vulnerable to water, and fabric fans becoming difficult to fold over time.

The material chosen is Dyneema® Composite Fabric, known for its ultra-light weight and exceptional strength. Resistant to water and UV rays, it’s ideal for everyday use — whether tucked into your bag or pocket, it offers reliable comfort both in the city and on the road.

Lightweight yet durable, the fabric develops a unique texture as it ages — not only helping you cope with the heat, but also integrating seamlessly into your daily life as a practical tool.

Dyneema®: The World’s Strongest Fiber

Dyneema® is an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene fiber, regarded as the strongest in the world. With approximately 15 times the strength of steel by weight and a specific gravity of less than 1.0, it’s light enough to float on water. It also boasts excellent durability and UV resistance, making it a truly revolutionary material full of untapped potential.

This fan uses an ultra-thin film version of Dyneema®, coated with a polyester resin. It achieves a water resistance rating of over 30,000 mm, resulting in a compact yet remarkably robust finish.

Please note: Due to the nature of the material, lines and wrinkles may appear where the adhesive resin coating overlaps, which may cause darker streaks. These are considered part of the material's unique character. The fabric will soften with use, becoming more comfortable and personal over time.
